Hedone

Hedone is a deeply intimate and provocative exploration of pleasure, secrecy and identity. The goddess Hedone is the personification of sensual pleasure and this project serves as both a confession and a confrontation. Through abstract self-portraits captured in the raw vulnerability of sexual intercourse, the series blurs the lines between desire and repression, the seen and unseen, personal freedom and societal judgment. This project is a confrontation with the deeply ingrained conservatism of Cypriot society where sexuality is often treated as something unspoken, especially when it comes to women. This project, therefore, functions as an act of defiance against the silencing of female pleasure, a rebellion against the expectation that intimacy should remain hidden.

The images are drenched in the color red, the color of passion, flesh and danger, yet they remain elusive, faded and distorted. They do not reveal, but rather suggest. They force the viewer into a voyeuristic role, making them question what they are witnessing and how they perceive intimacy when it is stripped of context but charged with suggestion.
