Medusa

The word Medusa derives from the Greek word “μεδώ” which means “to protect”. In Greek mythology Medusa was known as a monster with snake hair and one look from her could turn anyone into stone. She was a beautiful mortal and was punished by Athena into this form. Poseidon, the Greek god of sea, chased her all the way to Athenas’ temple and raped her. When Athena found out instead of punishing Poseidon, she blamed Medusa out of jealousy.

This is a perfect example of the world we live in today. She is objectified for her beauty, victim to a man’s criminal actions and demonized by the world.

A nationwide survey found that 81% of women have experienced some form of sexual harassment, many since their teenage years.
